Лимӯ меваи туршмазаи хушбўӣ аст, ки дар ҷойҳои зимистонаш гарм мерӯяд.
A lemon is a sour-tasting, sweet-smelling fruit, which grows in places where the winter is warm.
Мо лимӯ хариданӣ будем, аммо дар бозор лимӯ набудааст.
We were going to buy lemons, but in the market there were no lemons.

нигоҳ доштан

нигоҳ доштан: to keep, to look after

Шир ва маҳсулоти шириро дар яхдон нигоҳ медоранд.
Milk and dairy products are kept in the fridge.
Дар нигоҳ доштани саломатӣ дуруст хӯрок хӯрдан муҳим аст.
Eating right is important for looking after your health.

Bonus:
гов (мурғ) нигоҳ доштан: to keep/raise cows (chickens)
нигоҳдор: keeper, protector, guard

In Tajik it is less common to use the passive voice and more common to use the third person plural, as in the first sentence. You could also translate it “They keep milk and dairy products in the fridge”.

чиндан

чиндан: to pick, to gather

Имрӯз лола мечинем.
Today we will pick tulips.
Ҳар дарахт аз мевааш шинохта мешавад; зеро аз хорҳо анҷир намегиранд, ва аз хорбутта ангур намечинанд.
Every tree will be recognized by its fruit; for figs are not gathered from thorns, and grapes are not picked from thorn bushes.

тараф

тараф: side, direction

Дар ду тарафи хона айвонҳои дароз сохта шудаанд.
On two sides of the house long verandas have been built.
Тӯрро ба тарафи рости киштӣ андозед.
Put in the net on the right side of the boat.

Bonus:
The word тараф can also be used to talk about two sides of an argument and two sides of a sports match.

аз ҳар тараф: from all sides, from all directions
тарафи касеро гирифтан: to take a person’s side, to agree with a person
тарафдор: supporter, one who is on your side

Тараф is an Arabic origin word, which in its plural form is атроф. Notice that the three consonants are the same.

неъмат

неъмат: blessing, gift, bounty

Ҳеҷ неъмат беҳтар зи истиқлол нест.
There is no blessing better than independence.
Сулҳ – неъмати бебаҳо аст.
Peace is an invaluable gift.

дар байни

дар байни: among, between, in the middle of

Мубтадо асосан дар аввал ва гоҳо дар байни ҷумла меояд.
The subject mainly comes at the beginning and sometimes in the middle of the sentence.
Уқёнуси Ҳинд дар Нимкураи ҷанубӣ дар байни уқёнусҳои Атлантик ва Ором воқеъ гардидааст.
The Indian Ocean is located in the southern hemisphere between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Нилуфар дар байни хонандагони синфи дуюм аз ҳама зиёд шеър медонад.
Among the students in second grade, Nilufar knows more poems than all.

гӯш додан

гӯш додан: to listen

Шумо ба гапи падару модаратон гӯш диҳед.
Listen to your father and mother.
Дарбон дарро барои чӯпон мекушояд, гӯсфандон ба овози вай гӯш медиҳанд.
The gatekeeper opens the door for the shepherd, and the sheep listen to his voice.

додан: to give

гӯшдиҳанда: listener, hearer

The helper verb додан is seen quite a lot. Here are some more examples:
салом додан: to greet
ном додан: to name
бой додан: to lose
ваъда додан: to promise
нишон додан: to show
озор додан: to harm
тавсия додан: to recommend
хабар додан: to inform, to tell

When you have a verb that uses додан you can often form a compound word using the noun part of the verb with диҳанда to form a noun that is a person, for example бойдиҳанда (loser), хабардиҳанда (informer).

баён кардан

баён кардан: to express, to state

Мо фикрамонро бо ҷумла баён мекунем.
We express our thoughts with sentences.
Тоҷикон ва афғонҳову эрониҳо ҳангоми гуфтугӯ сухани якдигарро нағз мефаҳманд ва мақсади худро баён карда метавонанд.
When they talk, Tajiks and Afghans and Iranians can understand each other’s speech well and they can express their purpose.

варзишгар

варзишгар: athlete

Bonus:
Adding the suffix гар to a noun produces another noun that is a person. Examples –
варзиш: exercise, sports
варзишгар: athlete, sportsman
ситоиш: worship
ситоишгар: worshiper
ситам: oppression
ситамгар: oppressor
фиреб: lie
фиребгар: liar

косахонаи сар: skull

Косахонаи сар зиёда аз бист устухонро дар бар мегирад.
The skull consists of more than twenty bones.
Дар аксарияти хазандаҳо скелет ба қисмҳои косахонаи сар, мӯҳраҳо, пойҳои пешу қафо ва дум тақсим мешавад.
In the majority of reptiles the skeleton is divided into the sections of skull, vertebrae, front and back legs, and tail.
