The suffix -а is added to make it an adjective. Often the suffix -ӣ is added to nouns to make them adjectives. See these examples for the seasons.

таътили тирамоҳӣ: autumn or fall holidays
таътили баҳорӣ: spring holidays

While зимистона and зимистонӣ are both correct, зимистона is used more often.
