хӯрондан

хӯрондан: to feed

Хоҳари ман модарамро мехӯронад.
My sister feeds my mother.
Модар худаш намехӯраду фарзандашро мехӯронад.
The mother herself doesn’t eat but she feeds her children.

Bonus:
Some Tajik verbs can be made into causative verbs by inserting он in the verb.
хӯрдан: to eat
хӯрондан: to feed (someone else)

фаҳмондан: to explain (to make someone understand)
кӯчидан: to move
кӯчондан: to make someone move, to evict
пӯшидан: to put on (an item of clothing)
пӯшондан: to dress (someone else)
тарсидан: to be scared

боқӣ мондан

боқӣ мондан: to remain, to be left

То соли нав соатҳои кам боқӣ монданд. 
A few hours are left until the new year.
Дар ҳавое, ки мо ҳориҷ мекунем шонздаҳ фоиз оксиген боқӣ мемонад.
In the air which we exhale sixteen percent oxygen remains.

Bonus:
боқимонда: (adj.) remaining, leftover
(Notice that the ӣ is changed to и because you can’t have ӣ in the middle of a word.)
пули боқимонда: the remaining money
боқимондаи хӯрок: the leftover food

Tajik proverb: То нафас аст – орзу боқӣ.  (While there is breath, hope remains.)

истихроҷ кардан

истихроҷ кардан: to extract

Дар Тоҷикистон тӯли 2016 панҷ тонна тилло истихроҷ карданд.
In Tajikistan during 2016 they extracted five tons of gold.
Ҳоло дар Австрия зиёда аз ду миллион тонна оҳан истихроҷ мекунанд.
Currently in Austria they extract more than two million tons of iron.

Synonyms: хориҷ кардан, берун баровардан

шод кардан

шод кардан: to make happy

Арчаи зебо орододашуда дар дили пойтахти Тоҷикистон бошандагони Душанберо шод мекунад.
The beautiful decorated tree in the heart of the capital of Tajikistan makes the residents of Dushanbe happy.
Ман барои меҳмононам мусиқӣ менавозам, дили онҳоро шод мекунам.
I play music for my guests; it makes their hearts happy.

Bonus:
Synonym: хурсанд кардан

шод: happy, cheerful, glad
шод шудам: to become happy

An alternative English translation would be “to bring joy”.

маскун шудан

маскун шудан: to settle

Норманҳо дар асри IX ҷазираи Исландия ва баъдтар Гренландияро кашф карда, дар он маскун шуданд.
In the 9th century the Normans discovered the island of Iceland and later Greenland and settled there.
Дар вақти пеш оилаи ман аз Самарқанд омада дар Тоҷикистон маскун шуданд.
In the past my family came from Samarkand and settled in Tajikistan.

Bonus:
As with many 6 letter words that begin with ма, the word маскун is Arabic in origin. Notice the same root consonants (с, к, н) as in the word сокин (resident).

шино кардан

шино кардан: to swim

Шумо шино карда метавонед?
Can you swim?
Пингвинҳои Антарктида дар зери об бо суръати 35 км дар як соат шино мекунанд.
Antarctic penguins swim under water at a speed of 35 km per hour.

Bonus:
synonym: оббозӣ кардан

шиновар: swimmer
шинокунӣ: swimming

табрик гуфтан

табрик гуфтан: to congratulate

Шуморо ба муносибати панҷоҳу панҷ солагии рӯзи таваллудатон самимона табрик мегӯям.
I sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of your fifty-fifth birthday.
Шуморо ба муваффақияти калон табрик мегӯем.
We congratulate you on the great success.

Bonus:
synonyms: табрик кардан, муборакбод гуфтан
(Notice the same three root consonants (б, р, к) in табрик and муборак.)

табрик: congratulations (noun.)
табрикнома: letter of congratulations
табриккунанда: one who congratulates

ҷойгир шудан

ҷойгир шудан: to be located

Идораи мо дар бинои калон ҷойгир шудааст.
Our office is located in a big building.
Уран сайёраи системаи офтобӣ буда, аз Офтоб дар ҷои ҳафтум ҷойгир шудааст.
Uranus, a planet in the solar system, is located in the seventh position from the Sun.

ларзидан

ларзидан: to shake, to tremble, to shiver

Аз хунукӣ дасту пояш меларзид.
His hands and feet would shiver from the cold.
Вақти заминларза, хонаҳо дар Токио тақрибан як дақиқа ларзиданд.
During the earthquake the homes in Tokyo shook for about a minute.

Don’t get this word confused with –
лағжидан: to slip

бо тарсону ларзон: with fear and trembling

реза кардан

реза кардан: to chop or break into small pieces

Ошпаз пиёз реза кард.
The cook chopped the onions.
Очаву бача дар як коса шир нон реза карда хурданд.
The mother and child broke up the bread into a bowl of milk and ate it.

synonym: майда кардан
реза-реза: (adj.) chopped, in small pieces
